More photos from Ivan Donev’s birthday! Happy 97!
Ivan Donev was born on 24.02.1928 in the town of Levski in the family of a master baker and a housewife mother. In 1939, the family moved to Sofia, where he graduated university, majoring in „medicine“. He also completed his education in „physics“ at Sofia University. He initially practiced as a doctor, head of a small hospital in the village of Gorski Izvor, Haskovo region.
Later he worked in Sofia at the 12th polyclinic. Then he started working at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences as a doctor at the atomic center, which was opened in 1960.
He organized clinical and laboratory studies on chromosome changes in personnel who had contact with ionizing factors. The results of these studies were reported at a number of international conferences.
He presented a report to the Atomic Agency in Geneva on the data collected from the study of the ionizing load of employees. He continued to do this research for many years, after which he turned to radiobiological changes in microorganisms. The data were processed in a dissertation and he subsequently defended his doctorate in radiobiology.
The WHO sent him to Mozambique, where he lived for about 10 years, worked as a professor at the Faculty of Medicine of Mozambique and studied male sterility from unknown factors.
After graduating in Bulgaria, he became interested in and engaged in the genome at the molecular level, and more specifically, with the factors that cause changes in the genotype. This topic excites him to this day.
Ivan has a daughter. He has no grandchildren.
Ivan loves nature, classical music. He is currently reading classical literature.
He says that in his opinion „a person needs to guess, search, be interested“.
Congratulations, Ivan! Respect!
The photos were taken on February 24, 2025 at the Residence in Bankya 2.
