WHY TO CHOOSE BULGARIA FOR YOUR DECENT OLD AGES?

History and traditions

Bulgaria, located in Southeast Europe, has a rich history dating back to the establishment of the First Bulgarian Empire in 681 AD. Over the centuries, it has been influenced by Byzantine, Ottoman, and Slavic cultures, creating a unique blend of traditions. The country is known for its folk music, dances, and vibrant festivals, such as the Kukeri, which celebrates ancient rituals to ward off evil spirits. Bulgaria also has a deep connection to Orthodox Christianity, with many monasteries and churches dotting its landscape, reflecting centuries of religious heritage.

The country played a significant role in the spread of Christianity in Eastern Europe and developed its own Cyrillic alphabet, still used today in many Slavic countries. In the 14th century, Bulgaria fell under Ottoman rule, which lasted nearly 500 years until it gained independence in 1908. Despite these turbulent periods, Bulgaria preserved much of its cultural identity, influencing both the Balkan and wider European regions.

Landscape

Bulgaria boasts a diverse landscape, with towering mountains, fertile plains, and a beautiful Black Sea coastline. The Balkan Mountains run across the central part of the country, offering scenic views and hiking opportunities. To the south, the Rhodope Mountains are known for their lush forests and the mythological ties to Orpheus. Bulgaria’s countryside is also home to vast agricultural regions, producing a wide variety of fruits, vegetables, and wine, while the Black Sea coast is famous for its sandy beaches and warm climate.

Weather

The weather around Bulgaria’s Black Sea coast is typically mild, with hot summers and relatively mild winters. Summer temperatures often range between 25-30°C (77-86°F), making it a popular destination for beachgoers. The sea breeze provides relief from the summer heat, creating a more comfortable atmosphere along the coast. Winters are much milder compared to the inland, with temperatures rarely dropping below freezing. Spring and autumn offer pleasant weather, ideal for outdoor activities and exploring coastal towns.
